K-Pop fans and netizens gazed in different perspectives the two deaths in a row that happened to the K-Pop Group Ladies Code members during the September 3 car crash. The first to go, Go Eun-Bi, instantly succumbed when it happened Wednesday as the van carrying the group crashed into a guard rail while traversing the wet highway near Seoul. Four days after or just this morning, Kwon Ri-sae finally yielded due to injuries sustained.
Speculations were rife all pointing to the driver as culprit due to overspeeding as the group needed to follow the tight schedule of their itinerary for the day. According to the AP report, "Inspector Lee Ho-dong said the police will call in the driver, who was treated for a mild injury, for more questioning."
But in an official statement issued before Kwon Ri Sae died and coming allegedly from the group's management Polaris, it said: "Near Suwon around 1:30 AM, the car that Ladies' Code had been riding in after finishing up their schedule in Daegu experienced a problem where the back wheel came off. With the back wheel coming off on the rainy road, the car ended up spinning several times before hitting the guard rail. Due to this, EunB tragically passed away. Currently, RiSe is in critical condition and Sojung is receiving treatment for her injuries. The other members and the manager and stylist have no big injuries."
Observers of the incident are divided whether to agree that motor accident is something beyond the control of the driver. Some even say it is fate. But others also opine that motor accidents can be prevented by the driver himself if he stayed sober and focused despite the pressure of meeting tight schedules, or if he thoroughly checked the vehicle before the journey. Or, if the group's management was concerned enough to cancel the show due to inclement weather.
Either way, two young lives have been wasted and lost. May the last member with fractured jaw surpass the ordeal.
Ladies Code was formed last year.
