Taiwanese Playboy And Socialite Gets 80 Years In Jail For Raping Multiple Women And Filming Their Sexual Acts; Vows To Appeal Verdict

Taiwanese socialite and known playboy Justin Lee is sentenced by the high court of almost 80 years in jail for raping more than a dozen women and filming the sexual acts.

In the decision of Taiwan's highest court, it said: "The defendant was found guilty of multiple sexual assaults and filming sex tapes without consent from others."

In a statement, the High Court said that "Lee disregarded the friendship and trust between him and the victims to sexually assault them when they were mentally or physically incapable and were unable to resist."

According to South China Morning Post, Lee must compensate a total of NT$27.75 million (US$927,000) to the victims.

Lee only needs to serve 30 years out of the 80 years in jail because it is the maximum punishment for these charges by law, court officials said.

In 2012, Lee became a headline news when he was reported to allegedly film sex videos of some models and actresses after drugging them, The Straits Times said on its website.

The Taiwanese playboy was previously sentenced by the Taipei district court to 18 years in jail for raping nine women and recording sexual acts with 17 women without their consent. The court also awarded the victims of NT$14.35 million in total damages, South China Morning Post reported.

The China Post reported that the punishment given to him in the first trial was less severe because Lee had denied that charges against him. He argued that the sexual acts and the filming itself had the women's consent. However, the judge believed that the defendant was lying and gave him a harsher verdict in the second trial.

Lee's lawyer Leo Tzou told AFP, saying: "Mr. Lee denied the charges of drugging and raping the women. We regret that the court did not take into account some of the evidence more favorable for him and the sentencing was much more heavier than we had expected."

Lee is considered to be one of the richest people in Taiwan. He is the son former Yuanta CEO Lee Yueh-tsang, who resigned from his post in 2012 after the charges against his son were read.

The camp of the Taiwanese palyboy vowed to appeal the verdict.
