Mike Miller said that the Cleveland Cavaliers' roster is one of the strongest in paper, but the Cavs need more time to get better before being considered as a serious title contender. Meanwhile, LeBron James is reportedly putting in work already.
In an interview with the News Herald, Miller, who signed a two-year deal worth $5.5 million with the Cavs in August, is thrilled about the possibility of winning another title together with former Heat teammates LeBron James and James Jones in Cleveland.
However, Miller knows that there is no shortcut to success, and the big question is not about the strength of Cleveland Cavaliers' roster, but about the length of time they need to become a cohesive unit.
"Once we all figure it out as a group, we'll have a great opportunity here," Miller said.
The Cavaliers recently acquired All-Star forward Kevin Love in a trade that sent 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins, 2013 top rookie pick Anthony Bennett and future first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who then traded the draft pick to the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal for Thaddeus Young.
With Loves' arrival, the Cavaliers formed a potent big three of James, Love and Irving. According to Miller, the current Cleveland Cavaliers' roster is almost similar to the Heat squad in 2010.
The 2010 Heat roster failed to win the title during the 2010-11 NBA season despite having James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, but they started dominating after spending one season together in Miami.
"Everyone has to get accustomed to a lot of different things," Miller said. "Listen, it's going to be a lot of fun doing it. The one thing you realize when you've been a part of championship teams is how fun it is to win and how much work it is. We're ready for the journey."
Miller also said in an interview with Fox Sports that James is leading by example this offseason because the superstar is already "putting in the work" to make himself ready for a tough grind next season.
"We're down at the practice facility every day," Miller said. "We're getting it in. We had more guys show up this past week and it feels great."
