The neck to neck competition among branded smart phones is unstoppable. Just recently, South Korea's technology brand, Samsung, launched the new addition to Samsung's Galaxy Note family with more enhanced, more interesting features suited for the now generation with complex day-to-day schedules and activities.
First, the size of Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 was purported to be a hybrid of a smartphone and a mini-tablet. Therefore, bigger screen at 5.7-inches means experiencing high definition, clearer and livelier images but with deep contrast and at the same time, offers better viewing angles.
Its 'Multi Window' feature gives the consumer the choice whether to access different apps at the same time either in full screen, split, or pop-up screen.
Samsung knows this is a selfie generation and therefore needs improved camera technology. Samsung Galaxy Note 4's camera technology is an upgrade version of Galaxy Note 3 with its 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and front-facing camera at 3.7 megapixels compared to the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2 megapixels front-facing camera of Galaxy Note 3.
Other enhancements are an improved fingerprint scanner, which Samsung dubs as the world's first UV sensor in a mobile device and a stylus or S Pen. Samsung said the S Pen will provide users with real pen experience to imitate the feeling of writing on paper with a foundation or calligraphy pen.
Launched at the same time is the more expensive 5.6-inch Galaxy Note Edge meant to protect the device when it falls down the ground.
Kim Gae-youn, Senior Executive of Samsung wireless division said during the presscon that the Galaxy Note Edge was meant to protect the device in case it falls. "On the right side of the Galaxy Note Edge, you can see a concave metal frame, when the device falls down to ground, the device is manufactured to hit the metal frame first," he said. In addition, the adopted glass with enhanced strength covers the curved display. The curved display is where text messages and menu icons can be found. The tapeline functions and users can operate the curved display independently when the main 5.6-inch display is turned off.
The Galaxy Note Edge will be released in limited number of countries, including South Korea.
Price range of Galaxy Note Edge is from one million won or US$982. This is more expensive than Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 LTE-A due to the cost of its curved display and limited number of inventory.
