There's not much Orange is the New Black Season 3 spoiler around but these words dropped by Laverne Cox will surely be enough to make you feel excited. The Netflix dark comedy, which stars Taylor Schilling, is slated to return for third season on June next year but according to Cox, who plays transgender prisoner Sophia Burset, filming could be done before the end of the year.
“We started shooting season three the first week of June,” Cox told MTV News during Sunday's Video Music Awards. “We should be done around the end of this year. It’s amazing.”
That's not the only Orange is the New Black Season 3 spoiler she provided. The actress, who is the first openly transgender person to appear in TIME magazine cover, also gave hints on the changes in the show's comic elements.
“I think more of [what we saw in season two], but what our show does so well is has a balance between the very serious and the comedic. If you just exist in tragedy all the time, it’s not so fun. I think human beings, to deal with a lot of tragedy, find ways to laugh about it. Find ways to be irreverent and keep their humanity in the face of really inhumane circumstances.”
In another interview for the October issue of the Essence magazine, Cox also talked about the success of her show and its diverse cast, trying not to give any new Orange is the New Black spoiler.
"At one point I looked around and I said, ‘I don't think anybody is going to go for this, but this is wonderful. It felt so good. Lo and behold, people really did go for it in a really big way."
Orange is the new Black features women of different race and culture and gender preferences. There's American, Russian, African-Americans, Hispanics, Italian-American, and African.
"People are watching television in a different way. People are understanding that [the traditional ‘middle America'] demographic is not necessarily one that we always need to target, which is great."
"The people who have traditionally made the decisions make them in a tower on the coast," Woodward says in the magazine. "They have no idea what America wants to see because they have no idea who America is. America is all of us who show up."
“For these ladies, change is happening and it's nothing short of exciting.”
