A price increase on the M Typ 240 will be in effect September 1 in both the black and silver models. Both are currently priced at $6,950, come September the rangefinder will increase to a $7,250 price tag.
Here's an official statement from the Leica store in Miami (Via leicarumors.com):
"Leica Camera has announced that effective September 1, 2014 there will be a price increase on the Leica M (Typ 240) camera in both black and silver chrome.
Currently, both cameras are priced at $6,950. Starting September 1, 2014 both will be priced at $7,250. To purchase a Leica M (Typ 240) at the current price of $6,950 your order must be placed before September 1, 2014."
Meanwhile, the recently announced Leica MP has been gaining a lot of exposure online. The MP is essentially an M typ 240 but geared towards the professional photographer. New features include improvements in the sensor and buffer; sapphire coating to its monitor making it extremely scratch resistant. An anti-reflective coating on both sides have been have also been added, making viewing easier in difficult lighting.
A frame line selection lever has now been added. The lever can select the bright-line frames can be changed according the focal length of the lens mounted. Frames are show in pairs for corresponding focal lengths: 28 and 90mm, 50 and 75mm, 35 and 135 mm.
