Angel di Maria Manchester United £75-million Transfer Slammed By Chelsea Great Ray Wilkins, Branding It As 'Desperate'

| By

Reports have revealed that Angel di Maria-Manchester United £75 million move is almost a done deal. This sum is expected to eclipse every transfer deal made in English football history. The Red Devils are not only known for sheltering the world's best players, reasony why the ruled the English Premier League for almost one decade. The Old Trafford-based club is also known for being one of the biggest spender in transfer market, too.

However, for Chelsea Icon Ray Wilkins, these Angel di Maria-Manchester United deal is different from what the clubs have done before. For him, it is 'desperate.'

“At £75million, it seems a lot of money to me. It’s quite sad when one club – and I hate using the word regarding Manchester United - becomes so desperate that the transfer fee will be elevated massively.

“This is one case where, all of a sudden, it goes from £50 million on Friday to another half of that. So we’ve gone to £75 million for a player that can’t get in the first team at Real Madrid,” said Wilkins who is also working as football pundits for Sky Sports.

Angel di Maria became an unwanted man in Real Madrid after the Spanish club signed FIFA World Cup breakout star James Rodriguez and World Cup winner Toni Kroos. This is despite the fact that he provided more assists than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues last season. The Argentinian playmaker reprotedly expressed his intent to leave the club, thus, Manchester United immediately jumped in.

Fans and Old Trafford supporters though are very happy with the imminent Angel di Maria Manchester United partnership.

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has said that di Maria will fit in with manager Louis van Gaal's system.

"He can run and Manchester United haven't got any pace in wide areas. It is incredible," Neville told Sky Sports.

"That is what the club has been built on for the last 10 to 15 years - being able to get from box to box quickly, being able to spring on teams, having people that can dribble and are quick in the final third."
