It looks like Resident Evil 6 a.k.a. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter wont be making its announced September 2014 release date. Director/writer Paul W.S. Anderson in June revealed that the second draft of the script is still in the works. Confirming the delay of the game-turned-movie franchise is its star Milla Jovovich, who is pregnant with her second child.
Jovovich announced the news on her Facebook page:
"Happy Monday everyone!
This was originally going to be a post to tell you how excited I am about flying to Cape Town, South Africa to begin working on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
But... My husband Paul and I just discovered that we are expecting another baby!!!
...
She also addressed the production team who has been in Cape Town preparing for her arrival:
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been working so hard on the movie in South Africa already and we are so looking forward to working with you all next summer,"
As the title suggests, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be the last movie in the long-running video game-adapted franchise. The first installment was released in 2002, and with the exception of the second and third movies, all of the titles have been directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (who wrote every film himself).
Statistically, the series has never been a huge success in the United States - the highest grossing feature, Resident Evil: Afterlife, making only over $60 million in its domestic screenings - but it is extremely successful overseas. The last two films, Resident Evil Afterlife and Resident Evil: Retribution, have made $296 million and $240 million worldwide, respectively.
Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming film except that it will be filmed entirely in 3D. Reports also say that aside from Jovovich's Alice, Li Bingbing will also reprise her role as Ada Wong.
