Ebola outbreak 2014 news reveals that an unnamed patient was tested for possible Ebola exposure in a hospital in Northern California yesterday, CBS Sacramento said in a report.
The patient remained in isolation in Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical School, while the blood samples were taken to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to find out if the unidentified patient is positive with the deadly virus.
In a statement, the Kaiser hospital ensured that it had measures in place to protect the staff from contacting the deadly Ebola.
Infectious disease specialist Dr. Stephen Paroli stated in the Kaiser press release, "In order to protect our patients, staff and physicians, even though infection with the virus is unconfirmed, we are taking the actions recommended by the CDC as a precaution, just as we do for other patients with a suspected infectious disease. This includes isolation of the patient in a specially equipped negative pressure room and the use of personal protective equipment by trained staff, coordinated with infectious disease specialists."
At present, there are two patients in the US who are being tested for the virus;the other patient is a 30-year-old woman from New Mexico.
Ebola outbreak has taken the lives of over 1, 300 people in West Africa and has made thousands of people sick.
The virus has a death rate of up to ninety percent, and its origins are still yet unknown. People who show symptoms of Ebola, such as the sudden fevers, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in other cases, internal and external bleeding, are advised to seek immediate help from a hospital with staff trained to handle Ebola.
At present, Liberia is implementing a curfew system to prevent more chaos from happening. African tourism is also suffering; less tourists are now booking trips to the neighboring African countries not affected by Ebola outbreak 2014, for fear of still being exposed to the deadly virus.
The Ebola outbreak started in Guinea and spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
