Despite previous controversies including script revisions and original director's Edgar Wright's departure from the project, it seems that the Ant Man movie production is in full swing.
A few days ago, Marvel sent out a press release on Ant Man's production:
"Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel's "Ant-Man."
"Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed ("Bring it On," "The Break-Up") and stars Paul Rudd ("I Love You Man," "Role Models") as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas ("Behind The Candelabra," "Wall Street") as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly ("The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," "Lost") as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym."
Marvel also revealed details on the plot before Comic-Con:
"Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."
USA today has released the first official photograph from the Ant-Man production. The superhero film is obviously filming in San Francisco in the photograph, featuring Paul Rudd's character Scott Lang under the Golden Gate Bridge.
Michael Douglas, playing the role of Hank Pym, is the scientist-inventor of the shrinking technology and the original Ant-Man. Pym has been a key member of the Avengers and infamously created one of the team's most dangerous villains, Ultron. Rudd's character Scott Lang adopted the mantle from Pym after stealing the technology from its inventor in order to pull off a heist in order to provide for his daughter.
It is also reported that John Slattery of Mad Men fame, and rapper T.I have been recruited for Ant Man.
Release date for Ant-Man is on July 31, 2015.
