Quite a number of sightings have been reported this year, most notable are the ones seen across California on New Year's morning. While some people thought that they were just regular fireworks on display there were multiple sightings that night, as claimed by Orangeville resident Cathy Adams.
"I actually found it New Year's morning and I didn't know what it was. I have never seen anything like it before.," says Adams after she reviewed internet and news reports. Police concluded that they were just sky lanterns lit on New Year's evening.
Another witness,Kaye Pinlac of Stockton told ABC News affiliate News 10 "I seen like six bright orange colored lights. They were almost like in a diamond or triangle shape. It was weird. And so they started just separating." Pinlac said he caught the lights on a video on his phone.
Another popular place where a number of sightings have been reported is Mexico. Here's on reportedly spotted after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit in April 14

Also in the UK, Police received a call about an unexplained object floating in the night sky. An unnamed caller reported seeing a "bright stationary object", quickly solved, the operator replied, "it's the Moon, over."
Here's the recorded call's transcript taken from BBC News:
Control Room: "South Wales Police, what's your emergency?"
Caller: "It's not really. I just need to inform you that across the mountain there's a bright stationary object."
Control room: "Right."
Caller: "If you've got a couple of minutes perhaps you could find out what it is? It's been there at least half an hour and it's still there."
Control: "It's been there for half an hour. Right. Is it actually on the mountain or in the sky?"
Caller: "It's in the air."
Control: "I will send someone up there now to check it out."
Caller: "OK."
The mystery was soon solved, as the exchange between control and an officer at the scene, makes clear.
Control: "Alpha Zulu 20, this object in the sky, did anyone have a look at it?"
Officer: "Yes, it's the moon. Over."
Blogger Scott Waring, of UFO Sightings Daily, spotted an August 4 appearance near an international space station, describing it as a "glowing disk."
"I took a screenshot of the UFO and enlarged it. It has a long line down its middle and a dome on its top, but is rectangle (sic) on its lower bottom,"
