Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor reveals the band's current state and their newsforthcoming album. The band recently released a music video for their new single "The Negative One", their first release since 2008's All Hope Is Gone.
The single is also the band's first since the death of bassist and songwriter Paul Gray in 2010 and drummer Joey Jordison's departure in 2013.
In one of 2013's most surprising stories, the band announced longtime drummer Joey Jordison was no longer part of the band. In response, the drummer came out publicly and claimed that he did not quit Slipknot. Details on the full story have yet to be revealed.
This raised questions among loyal followers, on who could be Slipknot's new drummer behind the album. When asked to shed light on the drummer's departure, Taylor said he wont go into detail about it "out of respect for Joe," saying its "one of the hardest things we've ever had to do."
"We were just knocked senseless by the loss of Paul, and then coming to terms with the fact that we had to make a really heavy decision about parting ways with Joe,"
The vocalist also shared "It's just been a hell of a road the past four years, and that's essentially what this album is. There's a lot about Paul, there's a lot about ourselves...it's us basically reconvening and dusting it off and saying, 'Look, we can either die under the weight of this, or we can live and crush everything and come back and be the Slipknot that we know we can be.'"
In a recent interview with BBC's Zane Lowe, Taylor said: 'The Negative One' is not an official single, just a little taste of what's to come. "That was just a gift for the fans, like we wanted them to hear a piece of the album. The single ['The Devil In I'] comes out in a few weeks and it's completely different. It's more melodic, but it's dark, it's powerful man, its something different, people are going to lose their minds when they hear that."
For now it is clear that there is a new Slipknot drummer. Their fifth studio album is announced to launch in October.
