Greg Oden News: NCAA superstar turned NBA Draft #1 overall pick arrested for battery charges.

In Greg Oden news, police arrested the former Miami Heat center early Thursday morning when they arrived at what is reported to be Oden's relatives house, finding a woman's face bloodied and swollen on the couch. Officers on the scene reported, "blood, swelling to the nose and nose area, lacerations on the forehead of the victim's face." Officers also observed blood on the sofa and floor in the sitting room area. Also on the living room carpet and dirt from a flower pot that has been knocked over."

The victim was initially "uncooperative" police said. A woman identified as the victim's best friend said "He punched her in the face."

"Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim," police quoted Oden in the report. Explaining that he was trying to break free from two people who held him back, but he swung his arms breaking free and hit the victim in the face.

"I was wrong and I know what has to happen". Police said Oden, 26, was "calm, apologetic and cooperative" upon taking him into custody, admits "full responsibility" for the incident.

According to the NBA player he and the woman had dated for an approximate 2 years and had broken up about 2 months ago.

Oden's relative at the home was awakened by the argument involving Oden and the woman. He added, " Every time the two would go out, there is an ­argument to follow"

The reported incident happened around 3:30am according to Lawrence, Indiana Police. Oden was taken into custody at the Marion County Jail around 5:00am.

Oden's agent, Michael Conley Sr., directed all queries to the Oden's attorney, James Bell. No official statements from the player's camp have been made as-yet.

Greg Oden faces a preliminary charge of battery. But has since been released, paying a $10,000 bond. Although he only has 72 hours until prosecutors decide whether he will be formally charged or not.

The 7 footer was a star at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis and then he played a season at Ohio State before the Portland Trail Blazers made him the top pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

Knee injuries have derailed the player's professional career, and didn't play from December 2009 until last season, where he averaged 2.9 points in 23 games for the Heat. He is currently without a team.
