Beer and wine are coming to Starbucks locations in the coming years.
In a move that dates back to the company beginning to sell alcohol in Oct. 2010, Starbucks will sell the products after 4 p.m. as part of the new endeavor that will be available in several of its locations as a way to increase revenue The Telegraph reported.
"We've tested it long enough in enough markets - this is a program that works," Troy Alstead, chief operating officer at Starbucks told The Telegraph.
"As we bring the evening program to stores, there's a meaningful increase in sales during that time of the day."
It will be a while before customers can purchase the new products in Starbucks locations.
"We are in the early stages of our growth and development," Howard Schultz CEO at Starbucks told The Telegraph. "If we're a 20-chapter book, we are only in chapter four or five," Schultz told The Telegraph.
"The concept is a natural progression for Starbucks as we seek to create a new occasion for customers to gather, relax and connect with each other in the evenings," Lisa Passé spokeswoman at Starbucks told The Telegraph.
"In the true spirit of a traditional coffeehouse, while some stores may serve wine and beer," Passé told The Telegraph. "Coffee will remain the focus of the experience."
Starbucks put the beverages in their flagship location in Seattle before making them available to 25 other stores in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta in Jan. 2012 The Telegraph reported.
Alcohol and beer are not the only changes Starbucks has been working. Other aspects include a mobile app where users can choose what they want from one of the company's locations before heading out to pay for it and pick it up, and a rewards program as part of the coffee chain's aim to reach $100 billion in market value.
