Marijuana Job Fair in Denver Attracts 1,200

| By

One thousand two hundred people flocked to the inaugural marijuana job fair in Denver Thursday sponsored by Canna Search.

Employees from fifteen companies, who deal with the substance met with the attendees who were looking for jobs CBS News reported.

"People started showing up about 6 a.m. this morning, for the doors opening at 11 a.m. The line is longer than a block now," Tim Cullen a marijuana businessman told CBS News. Cullen also has two marijuana stores.

The event appears to have been a success from both sides of the employment process.

"It's been great. We've had hundreds of people stop by the booth. I have stacks of resumes right here in front of me, lots of cards given out. I'm sure we're going to find a great bunch of people to add to our company," Pete Vasquez, general manager of Medicine Man, a marijuana dispensary told CBS News.

"But I also think it's a new frontier. Cannabis legalization in Colorado has gotten a lot of news, and there are people who are willing to relocate and come to Colorado to be a part of this," Vasquez told CBS News.

Participants interests ranged from hospitality to entry level positions.

"I have a hospitality degree, so I've been looking in the hotels, casinos, sales positions. I'm just looking all over," one attendee Jack Valin told CBS News.

"I'm looking for an entry-level position, but it's just being here. It's the first job fair ever for cannabis," another visitor Nelson Lopez told CBS News. Lopez drove 14 hours from Texas to Denver for the fair, accompanied by his sister and a friend of his family.

"It's more about just coming out here, getting my name, using what credentials I've got from working in a cash-based industry in Chicago to get my foot in the door somewhere, at least."
