SXSW: Shoes, Water, Eyewear, and Coffee? Los Angeles Company to Sell International Kinds of the Novelty

| By

Shoes will soon come with coffee at Tom's Shoes The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

"Through my travels, I found that some of the greatest coffee comes from developing countries," Blake Mycoskie, founder of Toms said in a statement The Times reported. "I learned that the largest ingredient in coffee is water, and that in many of the countries producing coffee, there are huge populations of people without access to safe water."

"Once people get over the initial shock when they hear we're going into the coffee business, I think they'll see that Toms and the one-to-one model is a platform for doing a variety of things, not just a shoe or eyeglasses company," Mycoskie told Time.

The new entity will have six different international kinds of coffee including specialties from Honduras, Peru, and Malawi The Times reported.

Customers will be able to purchase 12-ounce bags of the novelties for $12.99 at either Whole Foods Markets, Toms locations, or on the company's website The Times reported.

Toms was established in 2006 to only sell shoes for a good cause meaning that one pair would be given to a person in inadequate circumstances.

Growth for the company began in 2011 however to include eyewear under the same concept, along with providing money for those who need surgery for glaucoma or an eye disease that slowly leads to vision loss for individuals in other countries The Times reported.

According to The Times, over 10 million types of corresponding shoes were given to them. Two hundred thousand also got their eyesight back.

Next up on the list is a collaboration with Water For People, an organization which strives to supply water that is not harmful to their body The Times reported.

Toms shoes are famous for their comfortable feel, and products that are friendly to the environment.
