Geneva Motor Show: Ducati Introduces Dual Spark Diavel Motorcycle

| By

Ducati North America introduced its 2015 Diavel at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.

The Diavel comes in two models, according to Motorbike Writer. One model is base, which comes with a black frame, wheels and exhaust, and the other is carbon, which is featured in red or white.

The motorcycle features a 3Nm torque boost to 130Nm, Motorbike Writer reported. Ducati said that although power stays at 120kW, that peak can be reached at 9,250rpm, which is 250 revs lower.

Ducati North America CEO Cristiano Silei talked about the concept of the new Diavel and making performance the main priority, according to USA Today.

"During the course of the last six years, we have expanded our lineup significantly to cover niches that we were not covering before," Silei said. "Always applying our formula, always applying the Ducati formula".

Silei said the company chose to upgrade the power cruiser in order to expand to other customers, USA Today reported.

"People that are familiar with cruisers have a resistance to look at sport bike," Silei said. "But now they see the Diavel and all of a sudden, a light bulb goes on, a spark lights up. 'Wow, let me see this,' and they want to try it, they get hooked. Because, come on, we're talking about a 162 horsepower, 460-pound motorcycle that looks like a cruiser and handles like a superbike."

The Diavel's Testastretta 11-degree Dual Spark engine, with its new design, is an important upgrade to the power cruiser, USA Today. The engine inserts two spark plugs in each cylinder head, which provides more efficient fuel combustion. Ducati also made changes to the fuel injectors, relocating them to spray onto the hotter part of the intake valves to increase vaporization.

The Diavel Dark will start at $17,995, while the Carbon Red and Carbon White will be worth an extra $3,000, USA Today.

The Diavel is set to be released in April, according to Motorbike Writer. Prices and release dates are not available yet for Australia, but Ducati Australia plans to have them there before June.
