Mobile World Congress 2014: Nokia's New Smartphone Line Runs On Google Android Operating System

Nokia's three new inexpensive smartphones, unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Monday present a new selection of basic devices for the phone maker in its change of direction from the Windows Phone operating system to Google Android following past predicaments.

The new devices include the Nokia X, Nokia X+, and Nokia XL, and are or will be available in a variety of colors depending on when they hit the market The Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

Consumers can buy the X in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa, now, and purchase the X+, and XL in the same areas in the second fiscal quarter.

"Today, Windows Phone is the fastest growing mobile ecosystem in the world, and we continue to see incredible momentum with our Lumia smartphones," Bryan Biniak, vice president and general manager of developer experience at Nokia said in a statement USA Today reported. "Now, with the introduction of the Nokia X family of devices, we're delivering the same design, quality and innovation Nokia is known to lower price points to capture the fastest-growing segment of the smartphone market."

The Nokia X, and X+ has a four inch screen, 512 megabytes of random access memory, and a three megapixel camera The Times reported.

The Nokia X+ and XL have 768 megabytes of RAM, and a four gigabyte MicroSD card The Times reported. The XL also has five megapixel camera, and one gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual Core processor along with its counterparts The Times reported.

Nokia built all three of the smartphones with the Android operating system, and to resemble a Windows Phone from its outer frame to several app programs obtainable via the manufacturer, and Microsoft themselves. These include Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage, Nokia MixRadio, and Skype The Times reported. Apps for Android will be found in the Nokia store

The X will cost 89 euros or $122, with the X+ priced at 99 euros or $135, and the XL set at 109 euros or $150 prior to any reductions made by the government The Times reported.

The Mobile World Congress lasts until Thursday.
