Sony's PlayStation 4 Hits Market in Japan, Release Follows United States, Europe Launches

Sony's PlayStation 4 game console is now in stores in Japan following its midnight release Channel News Asia reported Friday.

"Thank you for coming to this launch despite the cold," Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment told the initial people to purchase the machine Channel News Asia reported.

The 100 people who initially stood in line prior to the products full distribution could carry home one of the consoles from Sony's building, located in the Ginza section of Tokyo.

"I want to play games with state-of-the-art technology," Tetsuya Tamura, an IT engineer told Channel News Asia. Tamura was with his son Shion.

"I played on a trial one and found that its processing speed is fast and it's easy to play," Shion told Channel News Asia. Shion occupied the wait time by using his PlayStation portable device.

A select few of the eager shoppers found their place in line a couple days before PlayStation 4's official release in an effort to be one of the people with the device as soon as it hit the market.

Sony recorded 2.1 million devices sold Dec. 18, and one million Nov. 18 PC Magazine and Gaming Illustrated reported

The game console has eight x86 CPU-codes titled Jaguar, and is manufactured from Advanced Micro Devices according to Network World. It also comes equipped with upgraded graphics co-processors capable of handling 1.84 teraflops of performance according to information from Tech Hive.

The machine has 500 gigabyte hard drive that can play blu-ray DVDs. There are also eight gigabytes of GDDR5 memory or quick network speed random access memory found in graphics cards. Game makers put 176 gigabytes of network speed a second on the machine since they wanted the computer to run faster.

Sony's previous game console models are the PSone, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 in various sizes. There is also the Playstation Vita, which users can hold by hand.
