Harmonix' Chroma video game could be the first to put music and individual shooting into one.
"Chroma has been a dream project of mine for some time," Alex Rigopulos Harmonix co-founder and CEO told VentureBeat. "Watching the teams at Harmonix and Hidden Path begin to bring this vision to life has been tremendously exciting. We're also thrilled to release an alpha version of this game and to evolve it in collaboration with our players. We can't wait to hear what people think of this new approach to both first-person shooters and music games," Harmonix told VentureBeat.
Chroma comes from the creators of Dance Central, Rock Band, and Guitar Hero VentureBeat reported.
According to Engadget, Chroma has five categories that range from basic assault to heavy tank categories. The type of weapon a user wants to use depends on how strong category they select.
"Truly new experiences in video games are very rare," Mark Terrano, chief creative officer and founder of Hidden Path Entertainment told VentureBeat. "At Hidden Path Entertainment, we were delighted to help Harmonix realize their dream of a musical shooter and are looking forward to the next step - seeing it continue to evolve with the energy, input, and creativity from the game community!" Terrano told VentureBeat.
The music component comes into play when a user shoots or jumps when playing the game according to Engadget.
Characters in the game perish with one hit when a user hits there target on a downbeat or downward movement Engadget reported.
A user can further ascend into the air when they jump on the beat. Those who jump on what is called a jump pad, on the music's downward movement can connect their button selections to go from spot to spot in accordance with the sound of the music.
Harmonix will evaluate the game in 2014.
