McDonald's new restaurant in Vietnam will be the company's first in the country when it opens this weekend.
The place will sit 350, and compete with Burger King's 29 locations in the country Bloomberg reported.
"McDonald's in Vietnam is going to be packed with parents, many of whom will not be eating because the food doesn't appeal to them but who will be happy because watching their kids munch away on burgers makes them feel they're part of something positive and modern," Markus Taussig, an assistant business professor at the National University of Singapore told Bloomberg. Taussig is also a former Vietnam resident.
Menu items are expected to have big macs, cheeseburgers, and fries according to a press release on McDonald's website.
"It's a global brand that people are familiar with, and that gives people confidence," Pau Stoll, chief executive of Celadon International Hotel Management Joint-Stock Co. in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam told Bloomberg. "People want to see a kind of global presentation that they are familiar with. McDonald's everyone knows. That's what Vietnam needs," Stoll told Bloomberg.
McDonald's announced plans for the restaurant July 15, 2013 via the press release.
"McDonald's is a well-loved Brand around the world, and we are pleased to be opening in Vietnam and bringing the McDonald's experience of quality food, great service and contemporary design to our 38th country in Asia," Don Thompson, president and chief executive officer at McDonald's said in a statement. "We will be focused on meeting our customers' needs and will work hard to exceed their every expectation." Thompson said in the statement.
"I have dreamed of one day opening a McDonald's restaurant in my native country ever since my return to Vietnam more than a decade ago," Nguyen, a Vietnamese businessman told Bloomberg. "I have been in contact with McDonald's over the years sharing the opportunity that exists in our country."
