How fast is your Internet? Apparently it's speeding along quicker than ever before--at least according to a new report by Akamai. Akamai Technologies, Inc. released its Third Quarter, 2013 State of the Internet Report, which has shown that the global average connection speed has continued its upward trend.
The report actually reveals that the Internet is growing by leaps and bounds as more and more people become connected across the world. In fact, average connection speeds saw a 29 percent year-over-year increase. In addition, all top 10 countries climbed 27 percent or more, according to The Wall Street Journal.
"In the third quarter of 2013, we observed that long-term growth in average and average peak connetion speeds remained strong, as did growth in global broadband and high broadband adoption rates," said David Belson, the report's editor, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "We blieeve these trends point to continued improvement in the quality and performance of Internet connectivity in countries around the world."
That's not all the report covers, though. It also touched on security. It turns out that China has regained the top spot for attack traffic, growing to 35 percent of observed traffic. That said, Indonesia's share fell by nearly half. Yet the United States saw significant growth, responsible now for 11 percent, according to the report.
As the leading provider of cloud services for deliver, optimizing and securing online content and business applications, Akamai plays an important role in the Internet's future. It seems, though, that the global speeds are becoming greater--and it's likely they'll become only faster still in the future.
