The most watched series in Disney XD, "Gravity Falls," is ending early next year but fans are buzzing lately in the Web about the possibility of a crossover with "Rick and Morty" happening anytime soon.
Movie News Guide, in its report, said that while "Gravity Falls" and "Rick and Morty" have different target audience, it is not impossible for both series to find a common ground and make the crossover happen.
The report added that fueling the possibility of a crossover is the fact that "Gravity Falls" creator Alex Hirsch and "Rick and Morty" creator Justin Roiland are really good friends. Some of the fans of both shows also said that they have found easter eggs throughout the episodes of "Gravity Falls" and "Rick and Morty" which hint of a possible crossover, including a hidden Bill Cipher image in an episode of "Rick and Morty."
In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alex Hirsch shared that for a time, he and Justin Roiland worked in the "same tiny office" for the Disney Channel. He said, "We both dreamed one day of having our own weird TV shows, and we would talk about ways in which we would childishly abuse this power."
"For some reason, the universe has blessed us with our mad wishes, and it occurred to us-let's start doing things that nobody else does, that maybe you're not supposed to do. We started putting little easter eggs in our shows that sort of connected the two. Our motivation for that is primarily to freak people out and blow their minds," Hirsch revealed.
Furthermore, talking about crossovers, Hirsch said, "I remember when I was a kid, whenever you'd see cartoons cross over with each other, it always ranged from a delightful, magical surprise to a cynical, annoying cash grab."
The "Gravity Falls" showrunner added, "So far, we've found that these little winking nods between our shows strike the right balance. I can't say whether or not there will be more, but I can say that we like to confuse and amuse people so who knows."
