The NVIDIA SHIELD console proves its gaming chops once again by being the only Android TV device to support Twitch broadcasting via the official app.
Earlier this month, the game streaming service announced the availability of an official app for Android TV devices along with the new Whispers 2.0 feature for the mobile app.
Among the features promised were watching game broadcasts, following channels and viewing user profile pages. But a big part of Twitch is the ability to broadcast your own content - which is where the SHIELD console shines.
"It's the only media streaming device capable of live broadcasting to Twitch, and now owners can also watch broadcasts of the games they love and chat with the players they follow," NVIDIA said in a blog post.
Per Android Headlines, the Twitch app itself is "a good addition to the ever-growing list of Android TV optimizes apps." The website liked its simple UI and overall good performance.
Launched earlier this year, the NVIDIA SHIELD is unlike other Android TV device with its focus on 4K streaming and gaming, according to SlashGear.
The device does have a wide selection of premium titles.
With the official Twitch app, "Nvidia taps into the social media gaming atmosphere that is commonplace today," Tech Times said.
Since it runs on the Android TV platform, the SHIELD also has access to movies and music in the Play Store. It also works with a bunch of apps such as Showtime, UFC, HBO Go and Kodi, among others.
"From 'Game of Thrones' to 'Wrestlemania,' there's something for everyone," Nvidia said.
The SHIELD Android TV is powered by the company's Tegra X1 processor with a 256-core Maxwell GPU and 3GB of RAM. Starting at $199, the console is now bundled with a TV remote and the SHIELD controller.
The official Twitch app for Android TV is now available via the Play Store.
