Samsung's new phone is expected to come in two variations: Galaxy S7 with a standard display and a Galaxy S7 Edge which features a display that curves on right and left edges according to The Wall Street Journal.
It will feature a pressure-sensitive screen similar to the 3D Touch display of Apple's iPhone 6S. Lightly tapping the phone screen produces a different result than holding down the screen more firmly.
"The pressure-sensitive display...will be similar to that offered by rival Apple Inc. on the iPhone 6S earlier this year. The responsive display allows the phone to interpret different taps and touches depending on how the user presses on the touch screen," Jonathan Cheng of WSJ confirmed according to Forbes.
Unlike Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge, the regular Galaxy S7 features a micro Secure Digital (SD) slot that will allow for expandable storage.
The S7 will look similar to Samsung's current flagship, the Galaxy S6. The camera is improved without the "bump" on the back of back of the phone to accommodate the optics and has improved low-light performance on its rear camera.
Other features include a USB Type C port with fast-charging capability, providing a full day's charge in 30 minutes or less according to Droid Life. This charging port is also found on Google's Nexus 5X and 6P.
An inclusion of a retina scanner may be possible for some versions of the Galaxy S7, same with Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL according to Venture Beat. The scanner, which would look at the retina of your eye, may be for biometric security or other areas that will use fingerprints for verification like unlocking the phone or authenticate payments.
The Galaxy S7 release date is reportedly in time for Mobile World Congress in late February. Samsung's Galaxy S7 features will the put in the competition as Apple is reportedly expected to launch a news smaller iPHone 6c and a second-generation Apple Watch on the same month.
