Microsoft HoloLens To Get Life-Sized Cortana? Users Want It For Augmented Reality Device

| By

A life-sized Cortana is one of the leading ideas for Microsoft HoloLens in the tech giant's app ideas contest for their augmented reality headset.

"Hologram of Cortana from Halo who you can talk to and interact with," wrote user LookItsKris in the description field of his idea called Cortana in Person.

"Works in the same way as Cortana on desktop/phone. Get answers to questions, etc. Maybe ask a question on HoloLens and answers come through phone? Possibilities are endless."

The idea was submitted in the Share Your Idea website where Microsoft is soliciting HoloLens app ideas from the public. As Franchise Herald previously reported, the top three ideas (based on votes) will actually be built by the tech giant.

Cortana in Person has proven popular enough that it's well within the top three with 506 votes, as of this writing. It has received positive feedback from the community as well.

"I'm so excited when I see this idea! Why not?" one commenter wrote.

"If they don't do this already (without this competition) they are seriously missing a good opportunity," another one wrote.

One user did question the app's purpose given Microsoft is pushing HoloLens as a business tool.

"Probably not too useful, but it would be a nice app to add," another one said.

Still, the idea seems popular enough that similar ones can also be found in the Share Your Idea website for the augmented reality headset, whose $3,000 development kits are due out in Q1 2016.

As VentureBeat pointed out, Cortana is Redmond's answer to Apple's own personal assistant, Siri. Any Xbox player would recognize her as the AI from the "Halo" franchise.

The website thinks a life-sized Cortana hologram for the Microsoft HoloLens isn't so far-fetched. The augmented reality headset reportedly runs on Windows 10 like Windows-based PCs and phones eventually.

"Then it becomes simply a matter of what form she would take."
