Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim 2" reportedly suffered from setbacks.
Supposedly, the sequel has started filming last September, however due to unforeseen circumstances, the production did not proceed.
According to Cinema Blend, the Mexican director has been pushing Warner Bros. to green light the project.
"PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet," Guillermo del Toro reportedly tweeted. "If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling."
And while there has been no updates if the studio has already decided to push through, Cross Map reported that Guillermo del Toro has already assured fans that the second installment to the kaiju-themed film is happening.
Meanwhile, Charlie Hunnam, who is reportedly set to reprise his role in the sequel, could be joined by "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams.
AV Club reported that the 18-year-old Williams and del Toro have already met to discuss the details.
VC Post added that the director had even tweeted about Maisie Williams' brilliance claiming how "remarkable" she is.
Williams on the other hand, has not spoken of her involvement on the said project yet.
But while the devolepment of "Pacific Rim 2" is still on ice, del Toro gladly shared his thoughts about the sequel.
Talking to Happy Sad Confused as reported by Indiewire, the "Crimson Peak" director explained how he thinks of his movies.
"Even when you do a project as insane as 'Pacific Rim,' giant robots, giant monsters: I do it straight," he said of his attitude about making the film.
"I believe in giant robots, I believe in giant monsters, I'm not being ironic or post-modern. Same with Gothic romance, ['Crimson Peak'] has a heightened tone of melodrama and I went for broke."
