Ian Somerhalder Shows No Sign Of Despair From Nina Dobrev's Exit In 'Vampire Diaries' Season 7?

| By

While many of "The Vampire Diaries" fans were left broken hearted, when main stay cast Nina Dobrev abruptly announced her exit from the show, it seemed like her former co-star and boyfriend Ian Somerhalder has not been affected at all.

Now that Elena Gilbert is out of the story, many expected that Ian Somerhalder, who plays the role of her love interest, Damon Salvatorre, would be devastated.

That may not be the case, as Nikki Reed's husband finally opens up about the depature Nina Dobrev from the long-running vampire-themed show, "The Vampire Diaries."

"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone," he explained told Variety. "And I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula."

Nina Dobrev, on the other hand, seemed to have completely moved on from the show as she is reportedly getting her hand busy in the movies instead.

"That chapter is closed, sadly -- bittersweet," Dobrev explained to Entertainment Weekly.

She admitted that she's on the look for more challenging roles.

"I want to do something dark and gritty," she explained to WhoWhatWear. "I want to work with directors that I admire and that will make me better and actors that will challenge me and scare the s--t out of me."

According to Deadline, the Bulgarian-Canadian actress is now being eyed to star in the upcoming "Baywatch" reboot.

In addition to "Baywatch," Deadline reported that Nina Dobrev is now working on a movie with "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams, called, "Arrivals."
