New Jersey Man Rescued From 20-Inch Outflow Water Pipe; Found 10 to 12 Inches Inward

Rescuers released a man from a water pipe in Manalapan Township N.J. Friday according to police The Asbury Park Press reported Friday.

"There was no impact to the water quality or the water transmission," Jim Mastrokalos director of operations at United Water told The Press. "The integrity of the system is safe," Mastrokalos told The Press. Surrounding companies residences were not affected The Press reported.

Asef Mohammad, 26-years-old from Manalapan Township was stuck for many hours 10 to 12 feet down in a 20-inch outflow pipe at United Water's location at 103 Wilson, Ave according to police The Press reported. The pipe was not in use The Press reported. "There is no reason for anyone whatsoever to climb into a pipe," Rich Henning, a spokesman for United Water told The Press. "It is a facility that pumps water, pumps it out of the ground," Henning told The Press. This is certainly the first time we have ever seen anything like this," Henning told The Press.

Employees conducting maintenance work on the property attended to Mohammad's yelps for help around 7 a.m. The Press reported.

Mohammad was taken out of the pipe around 11 a.m. following efforts to break down the pipe The Press reported.

Responders transported Mohammad to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, N.J. via helicopter The Press reported. An officer accompanied him since he is in custody. The Press reported.

Mohammad is expected to be charged with fourth-degree trespassing according to police The Press reported.

United Water's video footage will help determine when Mohammad entered the pipe, and the method he used to climb into it The Press reported.

United Water's property sits near the Englishtown Auction flea market at 90 Wilson Ave. The Press reported.
