Is Nicki Minaj thinking twice about her engagement with Meek Mill?
On Thursday, Dec. 11, Nicki Minaj testified in a Philadelphia court for her fiancé, Meek Mill for crossing state lines to attend the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Nov. 22.
By law, Meek Mill was supposed to ask permission before he could leave the state.
On Dec. 11, Meek Mill saw a judge to talk about his recent parole violation, during which the rapper's lawyer said the couple was seriously considering getting married.
However, it was reported that Nicki Minaj kept mum about the lawyer's statement on marriage. Instead, the "Anaconda" rapper said that she and Meek Mill were living together and that she might have more influence over him than his parole officer.
"She's (Mill's parole officer) not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am," Minaj said before the judge. "He's not perfect, but I can't believe how much he's changed."
According to court prosecutors, Meek Mill has repeatedly violated his parole by changing his court-approved travel schedules and avoiding a drug test. Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley also said that the rapper submitted a suspicious urine sample, as reported by ABC News.
During her time on the court stand, Nicki Minaj promised to help Meek Mill in fulfilling his community service requirements and other court-ordered tasks.
"He doesn't have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible," said Minaj. "Since I've come in his life, I think I've been working on that a little bit. ... He's just getting accustomed to being an adult."
Judge Brinkley agreed but threatened to throw Mill back to jail if he didn't straighten up, adding that she "hasn't been convinced otherwise."
"He is thumbing his nose at me," Brinkley warned. "And I haven't been convinced otherwise."
"He told me last evening how he respects you," Mill's lawyer, Frank DeSimone said. "He wouldn't be who he is if you sent him to the state penitentiary in 2009. He wouldn't be Meek Mill."
Meek Mill's probation began in 2009 a gun and drug conviction in 2008, for which he served eight months in jail, Billboard reported.
