Geneva is on high level alert as terrorist attack threatens the city. Authorities deployed additional police officers in search for four to six terrorist suspects.
Following the Paris attacks, Geneva had been notified that individuals linked to the incident may be in the city or surrounding area. The city's alert level had been raised from two to three on a scale of five.
"The ultimate goal is to prevent a terrorist event," the federal prosecutor's office said according to The Local.
Some local newspapers in the city have published a photo of four bearded men "raising their forefingers in the air in the manner of Isis combatants."
"We had some information that the threat of a terrorist attack was present in Geneva and we had some information about the people who might be in Geneva preparing these attacks. We are actively searching for them," a spokeswoman said according to a report by People.
"At this stage it is a mixture of precaution and active research. We have some people identified who are potentially in Geneva or the surrounding region and who are potentially preparing a terrorist attack. So we have to be prepared," she added.
Sensitive sites have been alerted according to a Swiss official.
The security in the United Nations office in Geneva tightened as guards with submachine guns stood at the entrance according to a report by The New York Times.
Within the compound are the headquarters of the World Health Organization, United Nations human rights office, UNHCR refugee center, World Trade Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
"The heightened security affects the entire Geneva area, and the U.N. is taking measures that are commensurate with those taken in the host country," Rheal LeBlanc, U.N. spokesman, said according to Yahoo News.
Although Geneva is not on an emergency state like Paris or Brussels, the city is still on high level of alert due to threats of terrorist attack.
