A man is reportedly in critical condition after Denver police shot a man, holding people hostage at a Denver 7-Eleven Monday according to police CBS television station in Denver KCNC reported Tuesday.
The man reportedly took the hostages into the 7-Eleven on West Colfax and Perry Street around 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. Officials blocked off Colfax while examining the crime KCNC reported.
"After negotiating for about an hour the individual decided to come out holding a female hostage, at which time the officers told him he had to let the hostage go," Robert White, Denver police chief told KCNC. "He refused," White told KCNC. "He then attempted to drag the female back in the store," White told KCNC. "Out of fear for the female's safety one of our officers fired a shot, striking the individual,"
The woman was able to make it safely out of harm's way KCNC reported.
"Great job...I got out alive," the woman told KCNC.
Another assistor to the scene ordered the man to let the hostages go via bull horn, but reportedly did not cooperate according to police KCNC reported.
"I was in there and then I walked out and all of sudden I see cops pull up; terrible," a customer at the store told KCNC.
Officials do not know if the man had a weapon, and what his reason for the incident was KCNC reported. No hostages were hurt during the incident KCNC reported.
Negotiators, and SWAT teams responded to the scene after reports about a dangerous individual in the location KCNC reported.
