Sycamore Township Zombie Nativity Set Creator To Appear In Court; Too Gruesome?

| By

A zombie nativity set up in Sycamore Township has drawn a lot of attention from the media.

Jason Dixon, the creator of the zombie nativity set, was cited by township zoning administrator, Harry Holbert for the accessory structure on the front lawn of his home. Structures located in the front or side yard should not be more than 35 per cent of the area.

A fine of $500 per day fine threatened Dixon if he does not comply with the regulations according a report by WCPO.

Dixon complied with the zoning regulations the next day by removing the roof of the nativity set.

"This was never about the zombies but rather that the manger was 15-feet high," Holbert said.

However, Dixon is still required to appear in the Hamilton Country Municipal Court on Dec 22.

Last year, Dixon set up the zombie nativity set for the first time. He spent almost $1,000 for supplies in building the controversial structure.

He was given citation for two zoning violations: accessory structure and debris in front of the garage.

The Sycamore Township zombie nativity set raised different reactions from the media, and people shared their thoughts on its Facebook page.

"Too offensive for my taste. It's gruesome," Facebook user Millie Addingtonn wrote.

"Are you trying to give children nightmares?" Jen Bjerke asked.

The creator said his father is one of the people who hates his creation according to a report by WHNT News.

However, Dixon also got some encouragement from supporters of the nativity set.

"Be strong don't take it down," Shelley Olinger Hutchens wrote.

"I love it. Don't give in," encouraged Robyn E. Merchant.

With all the controversy, this might be the last year for Sycamore Township zombie nativity set. "I can say this on record. We raised money and we're going to buy props, but I'm probably not going to do it the following year."
