Floyd Mayweather Jr. And Manny Pacquiao Are 'Too Big' For Either To Be Chosen As Amir Khan's Next Fight

| By

Remember the time when Amir Khan's next fight was supposed to be against Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Many Pacquiao?

The British boxer's camp made it known that they want a big fish for him. However, none of the two elite boxers accepted his challenge. Now, his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport revealed they already moved past the two iconic fighters.

"Amir's not got the Pacquiao fight. I always felt Brook is the obvious choice, but Mayweather and Pacquiao were big fights for Khan and now they are not happening," he told Boxing Scene.

"I have said to Amir that if we don't get this sorted in the next couple of weeks we will miss the boat for a summer fight. Brook one million percent wants the fight, now I believe Khan wants the fight, so we will meet next week and I believe we will get the deal done."

Amir Khan's next fight is supposed to take place early next year but the former Olympian chose to wait for Pacman, something critics say would only derail his blossoming career. One of those who did not think of Khan as worthy Pacquiao opponent is Hearn himself.

"I don't believe Pacquiao will get in the ring because there's little reward for him," he told SkySports.

"For Khan, there's his biggest pay-day, a fight that will go down in the history of British boxing and a world title on the line. There's talk of Khan fighting Danny Garcia again. Some will feel that's as tough a fight as the Brook fight but I guarantee you the Brook fight will pay twice the money, so I don't understand."

MMA fighter BJ Flores also blasted Khan for being too ambitious.

"I think the main thing is that Amir is a very good fighter but he's gotta remember against Floyd and against Manny," Flores told On The Ropes with Robert Brown.

"He's the B side, so it doesn't always happen on his terms. When they're ready to decide when it is, then he's gotta sit back and play cool and not make it like he's the one controlling everything because he's not."

Amir Khan will now instead fight fellow British boxer Kell Brook on June 4 at the Wembley Stadium.
