It seems that 2015 is the year of the divorce as another famous Hollywood couple decided to end their 19-year marriage. Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith are now officially divorced and they have also reportedly settled their earnings and properties. So who got the better part of the deal?
According to TMZ, the 55-year-old actor will keep the money he earned from his blockbuster hits including "Spy Kids," "The Mask of Zorro," and "Desperado." The 58-year-old actress, on the other hand, gets to keep what she has earned from her projects.
The website revealed that the former husband and wife decided to split their movie earnings from 2004 to 2014. This included "Puss in Boots," "Shrek 2," "Machete Kills," and "The Expendables 3." It appeared to be a post-nuptial agreement because they only started doing this after 8 years of marriage.
Since Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith are now divorced, then there's no point living under the same roof. They sold their mansion in Los Angeles and split up the profits, but the actress will be keeping their house in Aspen.
Apart from the house, Dakota Johnson's mom will be financially secured as she gets $65,000 spousal support from her ex-husband. Antonio and Melanie announced their divorce back in 2014, but remained good friends for the sake of their children.
Early this year, the Spanish actor revealed that their relationship remains solid despite their divorce. "We're going to keep seeing each other," he said as reported by PEOPLE. "We will continue. The family isn't dead, not at all."
In a separate interview with Hello! Magazine via Belfast Telegraph, Antonio Banderas confessed that his divorce with Melanie Griffith was not that easy but he chose to see the positive side of it. "The end of our marriage meant I had to start opening my eyes to new ways of seeing my world and moving forward with my life, my work - with everything," he said.
"We all pass through different turning points and obviously this was a major one. But I don't dwell on sadness. I'm enjoying the feeling of starting from zero and seeing what's next in store for me," the actor added.
