Moto 360 Sport Release Date, Price Confirmed! Android Wear Smartwatch Best For Fitness Junkies

| By

Motorola has confirmed release date and price for its fitness-focused Moto 360 Sport Android Wear smartwatch.

Last week, the tech firm announced their latest smartwatch will be available in the UK and France on Dec. 18. On Jan. 7, the Moto 360 Sport will launch in the US, in time for helping everyone fulfill their New Year's resolution.

The smartwatch will reportedly retail for $299 on Motorola.com and other online stores. A few days later on Jan. 10, it will go on sale at Best Buy and the Moto Shop in downtown Chicago.

Motorola said the 360 Sport release date for Canada, Brazil, Mexico, China and Spain will also be next year.

Based on the Moto 360 smartwatch launched earlier this year, the 360 Sport is billed as everyone's workout partner.

As Engadget noted, the Moto 360 Sport is made of silicone and comes with "side ventilation channels" to keep your wrist cool. Its AnyLight display is optimized for outdoor viewing.

But perhaps the smartwatch's most important feature is the built-in GPS.

"The inclusion of GPS connectivity turns a smartwatch from a notification device into a fully fledged running assistant," Forbes said.

As the website noted, the Moto 360 Sport is only the second Android Wear smartwatch - after the Sony SmartWatch 3 - to come with the feature.

Even without a smartphone, it will accurately track your runs. Altitude tracking is possible with the barometric altimeter and there's a heart rate monitor too. The built-in Moto Body software records daily fitness stats. According to Forbes, the Moto 360 Sport is also compatible with Google Fit.

When you're not exercising, the 360 Sport also works just like any other Android Wear smartwatch, according to The Verge. Unlike the standard model though, it's not as customizable.

Priced at $299, the Moto 360 Sport release date is set for Jan. 10 in the US. It will be available in white, black and orange.
