Tom Hardy, on Sunday, won Best Actor in the British Independent Film Awards for his twin gangster role, Ronnie and Reggie Kray, in the film "Legend."
Having scored the Best Actor award, Tom Hardy has defeated other nominees including Tom Courtney, Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston.
The 38-year old actor has also been recently recognized by IMDb as the No. 1 Star of 2015, dethroning 2014's Top Star Shailene Woodley. His film, "Mad Max: Fury Road," had also been hailed by the National Board of Review as 2015's Best Picture.
Tom Hardy, however, was not able to accept his Best Actor award for the British Independent Film Awards as he was in London together with Leonardo DiCaprio attending the BAFTA screening for "The Revenant."
Accepting Hardy's award is his "The Revenant" co-star Domhnall Gleeson who told the audience in his acceptance speech (via Channel 24): "Tom [Hardy] has decided to make a fool of me again-I have nothing to do with this film."
And life must have been making a joke out of Domhnall Gleeson as he had been beaten by his own father Brendan in the Best Supporting Actor category and since his father could not attend, too, Domhnall also had to accept the award in behalf of his father. Domhnall was nominated for "Brooklyn" while his father, Brendan, won the award for his role in "Suffragette."
Other winners on Sunday include: "Ex Machina" winning Best British Independent Film; Alex Garland ("Ex Machina") as Best Director; Saoirse Ronan ("Brooklyn") as Best Actress; Olivia Colman ("The Lobster") as Best Supporting Actress; Alex Garland ("Ex Machina") as Best Screenplay; "Dark Horse: The Incredible True Story Of Dream Alliance" as Best Documentary; "Room" as Best International Independent Film; Stephen Fingleton ("The Survivalist") for the Douglas Hickox Award for Debut Director; Paul Katis and Andrew De Lotbiniere ("Kajaki: The True Story") as Producer of the Year; "Orion: The Man Who Would Be King" as Discovery Award; Andrew Whitehurst for VFX ("Ex Machina") for Outstanding Achievement in Craft; "Edmond" as Best Short Film; and Abigail Hardingham ("Nina Forever") as Most Promising Newcomer.
