Microsoft launched a contest to solicit HoloLens app ideas from the public as it let its employees play around with the augmented reality headset.
According to VR Focus, the tech giant is soliciting ideas for the HoloLens' killer app. Ideas can reportedly be submitted and viewed on the dedicated Share Your Idea page until Jan. 11.
From there, the HoloLens development team will review all submissions and select the three most viable ones. The public will then decide which of those ideas will be put to reality via a vote on Twitter.
"The winning idea will then be created by our experienced HoloLens development team of designers, artists and developers," Microsoft said.
The HoloLens app ideas' originator will still be part of its development in Q&A sessions, weekly build reviews and more.
Once the app is created, VR Focus said Redmond will open the source code to allow the community "to develop and build from it."

And while the Microsoft's augmented reality headset's development kit is priced at $3,000, its employees are reportedly getting to take home some units.
"Microsoft has now started seeding HoloLens development edition units to its employees who are interested in developing applications for HoloLens," the tech giant announced last week.
PCMag said Microsoft encouraged them to make short videos with the augmented reality headset and post them on social media with the hashtag #MadeWithHololens.
Some have already uploaded clips showing a child holding the sun in her hands and a mime walking on a piano.
Reportedly, others used HoloLens to play "Halo 5" and "Candy Crush" without using an Xbox One console of computer screen. Another one was able to stream Netflix using only hand gestures.
Back in Oct, Franchise Herald reported a Microsoft lab is working on shared augmented reality under Project Comradre.
Taiwanese tech firm Asus is also looking to enter the augmented reality market with its own AR device in 2016.
