"Doctor Who" wrapped up season 9 last Sat, Dec. 5. Watch "Hell Bent" via full live stream online here or here.
The BBC's long-running sci-fi series' ninth season came to its conclusion in last week's episode.
"If you took everything from him, betrayed him, trapped him, and broke both his hearts... how far might the Doctor go?" the finale's official synopsis asked.
"Hell Bent" will take the Doctor to the very edge, according to executive producer Steven Moffat.
"I think we probably take the Doctor right to the very end of his tether," he told Radio Times. "I've toyed with it in the past but never really gone the whole hog. What would happen if you really, really, really pissed him off?"
"It's called 'Hell Bent' for a reason," Moffat continued.
Of course, it's not the first time the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi) saw Gallifrey. As pointed out by RT, he failed to find his homeworld in the season 8 finale after saving it in the 50th anniversary special.
But it won't be a rosy reunion for the Doctor, Gallifrey and the Time Lords.
"Returning to Gallifrey, the Doctor faces the Time Lords in a struggle that will take him to the end of time itself. Who is the Hybrid? And what is the Doctor's confession?" the season 9 finale's synopsis continued.
Whovians will also be treated to a very different Doctor - a Clint Eastwood-like "mad dangerous bastard," according to Moffat.
