| By

Microsoft ended 2013 with three million Xbox One game consoles sold, surpassing its one million mark its first day joystiq.com reported Monday.

"It's been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox," Yusuf Mehdi, xbox corporate vice president of marketing, strategy, and business told joystiq.com. "And we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible."

The game console reached 2 million 18 days later on Dec. 11, joystiq.com reported. Its first million came 24 hours after its release Nov. 22 USA Today reported. No information was available on how Sony's PlayStation 4 game console has fared to date numbers-wise according to joystiq.com.

Sony did sell 2.1 million devices Dec. 18, and one million Nov. 18, when it was originally released, a week before the Xbox One PC Magazine and Gaming Illustrated reported.

The Xbox One has an improved kinect sensor, which enables players to operate the device just by talking. Individuals can also connect the console to their satellite television equipment in order to watch TV, and flip back and forth between gaming, and viewing shows USA Today reported. The Xbox 360 can also do the same.

PlayStation 4 has eight x86 CPU-codes titled Jaguar, and is manufactured from Advanced Micro Devices according to Network World. It also comes equipped with upgraded graphics co-processors capable of handling 1.84 teraflops of performance according to information from Tech Hive.

The machine has 500 gigabyte hard drive that can play blu-ray DVDs. There are also eight gigabytes of GDDR5 memory or quick network speed random access memory found in graphics cards. Game makers put 176 gigabytes of network speed a second on the machine since they wanted the computer to run faster.

Both game consoles were hard to come by during the latest holiday shopping season with many consumers having to go around to different stores to see if they had the machine in stock CNN reported.
