A "Heroes Reborn" season 2 wasn't necessarily in the cards when series creator Tim Kring announced the revival of the cult classic.
However, could the miniseries continue on from the originally announced 13-episode arc?
According to Bustle, NBC's official site tagged the show as an "even series" which reportedly helped it gain the hype it needed. Calling it as such also gives the network the freedom to cancel it without losing face. However, should the show do well in ratings, then it could be safely renewed without much fuss.
TV By The Numbers reported that the superhero series started off with a decent 2.0 rating in the adult 18-49 range. Bustle noted that it gained 6.09 million viewers.
The original "Heroes" series finale reportedly attracted only 4.41 million viewers in 2010. Does this mean that the series would be getting the green light for a "Heroes Reborn" season 2?
Unfortunately, the site reported that the show's performance since then has been declining ratings-wise.
"After holding at 1.1 in the two prior weeks, and barely keeping likely renewal status in the index, the show dipped to 1.0 last week," the site pointed out, adding that the show's cancellation or renewal is "now down to a tossup, and headed in the wrong direction."
Bustle added that after losing nearly half of its initial audience, it has now fallen into the middle tier of NBC shows, which includes "The Player" and "The Mysteries Of Laura."
Considering that the latter previously got one more season despite a not-so-impressive ratings run, there could still be chance for "Heroes Reborn" season 2 to happen.
iSchoolGuide also reported that Kring was "still positive" that the show will be getting a second season. Its stars, however, such as Zachary Levi, only signed on for one season, putting "Heroes Reborn" in a more precarious situation for a renewal.
