They have been adamant that they are just friends but their new song, "I Know What You Did Last Summer," is reportedly not helping them with their defence at all, according to Sugarscape.
According to the site, they seem to be sending each other conflicting vibes of when the perfect time is to turn playful jibes into actual flirting.

However, it seems that his attempts at taking the next step into their relationship haven't been interpreted properly by the Fifth Harmony songstress.
"He friendzones me! He calls me kid!" Cabello cried out.
They were so suspicious that the host couldn't help but point out how defensive they seem to be about their dating rumors, to which Mendes continued to reveal that his attempts had been shot down every time.
"He's never made a move," her speculated girlfriend insisted instead.
On the other hand, Seventeen thinks they're already in love with each other - they just don't know it yet.
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have reportedly been doing "cute couple-y things" such as attending events together, bickering like a long-term couple, and even writing songs together. Despite their insistence that they're just friends, they seem to be giving off way more than that in their actions and interactions with each other.
Their affection, according to the site, became way too obvious during the Jing Bell tour in Dallas earlier this week. Cabello jumped up on stage with the Vine star to do a surprise performance of their collaboration song together.
They were "electric" on stage and they supposedly couldn't keep their eyes off of each other during the performance.
They also didn't have qualms in sharing their excitement of performing their song on stage together.
