"Empire" season 2 episode 10, a.k.a. the mid-season finale, is expected to be a very explosive night.
To make that happen, the show enlisted another top-billed musician.
Rapper Da Brat is set to appear in the show as an ex inmate of Cooke (Taraji P. Henson). It has been a while since Da Brat, known in real life as Shawntae Harris, appeared in a scripted show.
So how did she get the role? The 41-year old artist said it was her who contacted "Empire" showrunners.
"When the show first started, I had DM'd Lee Daniels, because I know him from meeting him through Mariah [Carey] and we hung out at her New York place on top of the roof by the hot tub in the little Moroccan room, just enjoying each other," she said in an interview with Billboard. "He actually ended up putting my song with Lil' Mo on the Precious soundtrack. "
Good thing for her, Daniels liked her and decided to bring her in for the "Empire" season 2 cast.
"We hit it off really well back then and I hadn't spoke to him in a very long time, and I just happened to DM him like, "Yo! I absolutely love this show! Congratulations on a hit show! You deserve it," she explained. "You should put me on the show and make me one of Cookie's cellmates or an artist that's trying to get signed to Empire." He hit me back in October and said he was just seeing that and he wants me on the show. It was like the best phone call of my life."
There is not much "Empire" season 2 spoilers regarding her appearance but it is believed that she is a former inmate of Cookie who returns to the prison where she stayed for 17 years to do a concert.
