"Men in Black 4" is really happening, but fans will be surprised to see some changes in the upcoming reboot. Instead of seeing two men in black, the producer will cast a female lead.
During an interview with Newsbeat, film producer Laurie MacDonald spilled out some details about the fourth installment of the popular franchise.
"There will be a prominent woman in black in the fourth [film]," MacDonald revealed as reported by BBC. Laurie and her husband Walter Parkes produced the previous films and now they are back to add some gender equality in the reboot.
The previous "Men in Black" movies featured Will Smith as Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K. In the third sequel, Josh Brolin played the younger version of Agent K. There were reports coming out that the "Focus" star won't be returning in "Men in Black 4," but the producer slammed all rumors.
"Never count Will out," Parkes said. "We are quite early on in it. We sort of looked at the first three in retrospect as a bit of a trilogy," he said. Walter also explained what they tried to achieve in the previous "Men in Black" films. "We tried to tell a story about those two characters and that relationship," he said.
"It sounds silly because it's a fun, science fiction comedy but when you work on these things you sort of try to find some thematic basis underneath it," he added.
The success of the 2002 film lured in many famous personalities who wanted to be part of the franchise including Michael Jackson who did a cameo in "Men in Black 2." Check out a clip of his cameo below:
After more than 3 years since the last sequel was shown, the producers wanted to do something new in "Men in Black 4." "Now we are looking at a reinvention," Parkes said."But it's a wonderful world to get back into." Fans could also expect more famous cameos in the reboot.
