Many people were surprised when Marvel and Sony announced that Tom Holland will be the new Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot.
The 19-year-old actor is not a fan favorite but the producers saw something in him that no other young actors could do - and that could be his acrobatic skills.
During an interview with The Irish Examiner, Holland revealed what he did to get the attention of the producers.
"I basically did a somersault into frame and a somersault out of frame and I was like, 'They may never see this but if they do I need them to know that I've got some gymnastics abilities and stuff," the young British actor said.
"And every tape I sent in I always did a little acrobatic demo to try and convince them to give me the role," he added laughing. Getting the lead role in the "Spider-Man" reboot was a dream come true for Tom Holland since he has been a huge fan of the web-slinging superhero.
"I always wanted to play this character and when I found out that they were re-casting the role I rang up my agent and I said, 'Just get me a self-tape. Please let me send something so that they can see me,'" he said.
"The Impossible" actor has big shoes to fill in since he will be taking the role from Andrew Garfield, who starred in "The Amazing Spider-Man" series. He recently revealed to Digital Spy that he hasn't been introduced to the British heartthrob yet.
"I haven't met him," he confessed. "But I'm a huge fan of Andrew and he's said some lovely things about me in the press the other day." Tom Holland also admitted that he copied some acting styles from the 32-year-old actor for his portrayal of Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War" which is scheduled for release on May 6, 23016.
"He did such a good job as Peter Parker and it's really difficult not to copy him because what he did was so perfect and obviously there are going to be things that I might steal but I hope we get to meet and even work together in the future," he said.
