Charlie Puth - Meghan Trainor kiss took the American Music Awards by storm.
The two did it just for fun after ending their number during the AMA last week.
The kiss, which last around ten seconds garnered polarizing reaction from the public. Whose idea was it?
Puth said it was Trainor's. He also revealed that he was hesitant to do it fearing it might cloud their performance of the song "Marvin Gaye."
"[But] I got the idea of what they were going for in terms of the creative direction, and it just made sense to tie it all together," the 23-year old said in an interview with Fuse.
"I realized that that's why I made 'Marvin Gaye.' I made it for people to instantly react and feel like they're falling in love with each other."
Charlie Puth - Meghan Trainor kiss in AMA was longer compared to the ones done by Drake and Madonna or Christina Aguilera, Madonna (again), and Britney Spears.
Puth said the smooch was supposed to be short but their producer wanted them to go on and it pissed him a little.
"I wanted it to be a quick thing, but [the show's producers] kept yelling in my ear 'Keep going! Keep going!' And I wasn't going to back off... I didn't want it to look awkward," he says. "Maybe in theory I should have done that."
Shortly after the Charlie Puth - Meghan Trainor kiss in AMA, the internet exploded. The two were quick to clear on their Twitter accounts that they are not together.
In another interview, Puth insists he is just friend with Trainor and he is seeing someone right now.
"I have a girl kind of in my life right now that I'm not making too public and I don't want people to get the wrong idea," he told E! Online. "But without Meghan's initial push, I wouldn't really be anywhere," the singer continued. "Meghan really helped me by being featured on my first record."
