"Mr. Robot" season 2 premiere is reportedly set around the same time it debut its first season.
What fans can expect once the show returns? A bigger and tougher challenge for Elliot Anderson and the rest of FSociety.
The sophomore run has been set up well by "Mr. Robot's" season one finale. Elliot (Rami Malek) has bigger enemy waiting for him. He might have taken down Evil Corp but when the show returns, he will have his back against the wall because of how big the opponents are.
Executive producer and series creator Sam Esmail confirmed "Mr. Robot" season 2's hacking adventures will step out of U.S. borders.
"There are absolutely international themes," Esmail told Los Angeles Times adding that he sees his USA Network drama thriller to last up to five seasons.
"The idea of wanting to change the world, wanting to revolutionize your society, that's not just something that's happening in America. Loneliness has increased, and that's an impact of technology. That's a global thing and doesn't just pertain to America. Who can't relate to that?"
Executive producer Chad Hamilton also reminded that this scenario has been foreshadowed in the finale when Fsociety made America's financial sector collapse.
"At its core, the show questions whether society's use of technology is for good or evil," Hamilton said in the same interview.
"Every culture around the globe can relate to this. The collapse of the financial sector in the finale sets up a thread that will go far beyond U.S. Borders."
Writers and other parts of the creative team has just resumed and although they are targeting a bigger season, Sam Esmail hints other open ended plots from the first season might be revisited.
"We have the writers in the room tonight; we'll consider that pitch," he told Deadline when asked about Fernando Vera who killed Elliot's girlfriend Shayla.
"Mr. Robot" season 2 premiere is expected to be around June or July 2016.
Aside from Malek, other returning cast are Christian Slater, Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday, Martin Wallstrom, and B.D. Wong.
