Franchise Herald gives the Top 5 changes McDonald's made in 2013 to adapt to the times, provide healthier food, and improve business.
Third Drive-Thru Pick Up Window:
The burger chain announced it is adding a third pick-up window to all of its drive-thru's next year as a way to ease congestion, lessen the amount of time customers spend when going through the line, and boost sales. Customers will be able to retrieve ordered items from two pickup windows rather than just one in modern and renovated McDonald's locations.
McRib Sandwich:
McDonald's tested out how its new McRib sandwich fared last month and decided not to launch it nationally, but rather leave it up to each individual restaurant to sell them depending on how they did. The company found it difficult to increase sales because crucial sales figures fell.
Dollar Menu and More:
McDonald's added $2 and $5 items to its new Dollar Menu and More selection. Besides McNuggets, the menu includes single burgers, double patty burgers, deluxe burgers, and additional chicken options.
Build-Own-Burger Concept:
The company began to try out its own build-your-own-burger concept last month in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
The new furniture is expected to increase the quickness of service, which the company has focused on improving since expanding its menu items.
McDonald's With Horse Hitching Post:
The McDonald's in Cave Creek, Ariz. became the first franchise restaurant approved for a hitching post where customers can halt their horses while they eat inside.
The town's council members voted to accept a site plan for the project on the northern end of Carefree Highway and 54th street.
Officials expect to begin building the new restaurant in three months, and open it three months after.
Residents voted in support of the project during March's election after previously attempting to discontinue project negotiations via a question on the ballot. The process would have denied the council's vote.
