Ballon d'Or 2015 shortlist is yet to be announced but as early as now, fans have already cast their votes.
The shortlist usually comprises of three players, mostly those who come from team who win trophies and records in the past season. In the past years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are shoo-ins for the top football individual award.
The Barcelona star wants it to be different this year though. For Ballon d'Or 2015 shortlist, he wants the three slots to be saved for himself and teammates Luis Suarez and Neymar.
"I hope that can happen, but it's not something that we are going to obsess over," he told Daily Mail's Pete Jenson.
"I'm sure Ney and Luis think the same way-if that is the way it turns out [the three of them as Ballon d'Or finalists] then great and if not it doesn't matter."
Messi's wish for Ballon d'Or 2015 shortlist is not far-fetched though. His trio with Suarez and Neymar won them three trophies last year and they also recorded the highest number of goals scored by a trio in one season with 121.
This season, which somehow affects the voting of the award, Suarez and Neymar are making a good case for themselves. The duo keep their team floating by scoring night and night out while the Argentine superstar is recovering on the sideline due to injury.
The trio was completed the other night when Barcelona faced off with AS Roma in group stage of UEFA Champions League. The Catalan club won, 6-1, with Suarez scoring two goals and providing one assists. Messi made a triumphant come back as well as he also made two goals and dished out one assist.
For his part, the Uruguayan striker believes Messi is still the best in the world. He also insists that he is not competing against his teammate.
"We also know that Leo is the best, and what we have to do," Suarez said as per ESPN FC. "Not compete against him, but help him and also help the team. It is a joy to have him back playing with us. I feel very happy for his goals and for him having completed the full game. We know he is a great player and he always puts on a good show."
