Just in time for the holidays, Windows Phone consumers can get 20 additional gigabytes for SkyDrive storage for a year liveside.net reported Friday.
"To show our appreciation of Windows Phone customers, we are giving you an extra 20 GB of free SkyDrive storage for one year. This is in addition to the 7GB of free SkyDrive storage that all customers currently have," Windows Phone said in an e-mail to customers liveside.net reported.
Recipients can claim the offer for more storage room in their cloud until Jan. 31. Consumers who have received the e-mail have until the aforementioned date to take advantage of it, while it must be in a consumer's inbox before they can take advantage of the promotion.
SkyDrive is pre-installed on Windows smartphones. Users can view information from their own online data accounts via SkyDrive.com from a computer or smartphone with internet, or the SkyDrive app.
Consumers had experienced difficulty with the app following Microsoft's latest update to its Windows 8.1 operating system.
"(The company is "aware of a small number of people discussing these issues on forums" and that it tries to work with them individually, often by phone, to solve their issues. Most people using Windows 8.1 and SkyDrive, however, are having a good experience," the company told PC World.
Consumers using the Surface RT tablet computer also had previous struggles when they tried to recover their machines via the brick method or putting another operating system on a computer.
"Based on our investigations of a situation customers have encountered updating to Windows RT 8.1, we can confirm that as of now this is a Windows update issue only affecting Surface RT customers," Microsoft told All Things D at the time.. "While only less than 1 out of every 1,000 (or less than 0.1 percent) Surface RT customers who have installed Windows RT 8.1 have been impacted, improving their experience and ensuring their systems are fully operable as quickly as possible is our number one priority. We have made recovery media available for download here along with actionable guidance for affected customers. We continue to work towards making the Windows RT 8.1 update available in the Windows Store again and apologize for any inconvenience. Further updates will be provided as they become available."
